Yorkshire does SXSW
the south by south west [SXSW] in Austin Texas is an international, interactive, film and music festival
Although traditionally an industry event, SXSW is seen by many rock and alt bands as the place to be seen playing… Bands dine out on these gigs for many years but getting a gig at one of the 80-some venues over the month long festival can be tough…
Arguing the point for Yorkshire bands is Music Yorkshire’s Pat Fulgoni.
Conceived in 2004 to showcase local talent, Music Yorkshire are now championing Yorkshire on the global stage. “SXSW is regarded by many as the most important US based Music Conference relevant to British Music – helping to break acts including Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae and the Kaiser Chiefs to name a few. There was a sharp upturn in interest for Yorkshire Music at SXSW 2009!”
Yorkshire bands set to appear at this year’s SXSW include… Black Spiders (Doncaster), Serious Sam Barrett (Leeds), In The Nursery (Sheffield), Kava Kava (Huddersfield), Standard Fare (Sheffield), Alvarez Kings (Sheffield), Scars On 45 (Bradford), 65 Days of Static (Sheffield)
NOTE – our horns are strategically pointed at DBR friends Black Spiders and 65 Days of Static. If you’re heading over to the festival this year, allow us to give you one tip; if you can find these two bands, tag along for the ride. I guarantee that Spider will be happy to be tour guide to Austin’s debauchery!
Black Spiders will be playing Red Eye Fly, 715 Red River Street, Austin on March 17th…
