Glastonbury festival organisers have confirmed that Billy Bragg will be helping to curate the Leftfield area of the festival in June of this year – Billed as a place where left-wing politics and music mix, Bragg explained that it will feature a mix of debates and music collaborations.

The singer-songwriter told Glastonburyfestivals.co.uk he is personally booking many of the acts.

“I’ve started sounding people out [to appear at Leftfield]. Can’t give you any names but I can talk about our format,” he said. “We’ll be kicking off around midday with a couple of debates running until 3pm (GMT) then from 4pm we’ll be inviting three or four artists to come and collaborate with one another in a hootenanny, sitting onstage together swapping songs and playing along with each other, then from 6pm we’ll have bands.”

Pixies appear to have self-confirmed their appearance at this year’s Glastonbury festival. Guitarist, Joey Santiago told a fan on Twitter that the band are set to perform at the three day bash, which takes place over the weekend of June 25-27.

When @MichaelS1990 requested that they play Glastonbury this year, Santiago wrote on his account: "We are!!!".

There is no official confirmation from Glastonbury organisers about their appearance yet. If they do play, they will join headliners U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder.

UPDATE: Looks like Joey’s comments may well have been an April Fool… damn his eyes.

The final batch of Glastonbury tickets will go on sale at 9am on April 11, from Seetickets.com.

Here at Destroy before Reading are very excited to be building a library of live sessions of local (and not so local) bands. Often in association with Higher Rhythm Studios, the sessions are a unique snapshot of bands in session, playing live.
