A new independent record label is helping homegrown local talent like M101 and The Beaus to break into the charts.

The team behind Doncaster’s Higher Rhythm studios launched Circuit Records this summer to release material recorded by local musicians as digital downloads. “We provide a platform for artists to sell their music and get a fair return,” said Higher Rhythm Senior Manager Steve Mundin. “The split from sales is in favour of the artist, keeping the revenue in the local area, and Circuit Records is run on a not-for-profit basis; everything we earn is invested back into the label to support more artists.”

Saucer – 5:58

Available on the _DbR_ Jukebox

“I remember every word…
every minute…
every day…”

_DbR_ welcomes old friends Saucer… With seering highs and devastating lows their songs tore clean through the be-quiffed, gold larme arrogance of the early-00s era. In their short lifetime they wrote enormous songs that carried more weight in substance than many of their out-spoken peers. Verse-Chorus-Verse-Repeat-to-fade they were not.

This song constantly sounds on edge. Like walking . . . Read More Read More

Tape runs out for analogue recordings as studio shuts its doors.

Analogue, the Doncaster studio with a firm DIY, anti-digital ethos, closed this autumn after two years recording many of the area’s best bands.

Its founders, recording engineer Darren Feris (ex-Beachbuggy) and keen music enthusiast Jamie Little, recorded exclusively with vintage equipment onto tape. “We are both very passionate about music,” said Feris, “and wanted to give Doncaster an all-analogue studio, recording bands live with the minimum of overdubs and effects.”

Vintage Rockbar, Doncaster, Fri 3rd October 2008

stdeluxe* St Deluxe *

Wielding riffs that Queens of the Stone Age would shop their dealers for, 3-piece noiseniks Walker deserve to be heard in an aircraft hangar rather than this tiny bar. Opening with “Hollow Planet”, an urgent slice of controlled feedback, they pretty much lay waste to the audience from there. “1976” is immense while “The Letter” is an ace pounding tune o’ doom.
